One of
the many things I love about the AALL Annual Meeting is the chance
to staff the LexisNexis booth. That’s right, I love it! Yes it’s
exhausting, but it is also a great opportunity to bring librarians
up-to-speed on all the new products and services available to them –
and there is always so much to show!
And I am not alone in my enthusiasm. I hear the same thing from my
LexisNexis colleagues, many of whom work a number of tradeshows.
What
sets AALL apart from other shows? It is obvious that librarians
really want to see what we have to show them. That is not to say
that the LexisNexis giveaways aren’t an incentive – and our
marketing team works very hard every year to try to find the right
balance of useful, desirable giveaways – but in most cases
librarians are really there at the product demonstrations because
they genuinely want to learn. And that makes it a perfect match,
because, as you can tell if you’ve ever attended the LexisNexis
booth demonstrations, we’re really excited about showing you what’s
new. This year will be no exception.
One of the challenges of working the booth, though, is that there is
usually more to show than there is time to talk about it. In the
interest of brevity, our demonstrations are usually high-level,
without all the bells and whistles. (And I, for one, love all the
bells and whistles!) Finding the right balance of products to show
with librarians’ busy schedules is always a challenge. In addition,
there are many times when we’d love to show you how to apply these
LexisNexis tools to the real-world challenges you face as
information professionals, but that isn’t easy to do in the
traditional tradeshow environment.
To that end, we have created the LexisNexis®
Learning Center. This Center, built right into the front of our
booth, makes it easy to learn more about our products and services
in a more relaxed atmosphere. No need to pre-register, just sign
in at the door. The classes are 30 minutes – long enough to
impart valuable information, but not too long so that you feel
trapped. We think it’s the perfect answer to that age-old dilemma.
Nine individual half-hour seminars will each be offered twice during
the three days the Exhibit Hall is open. We’ve grouped the seminars
into three major “tracks” – each containing three related seminars -
for your convenience in determining which ones best meet your needs.
Feel free to mix and match topics as appropriate.
