The selected participants are responsible for airfare to and from the conference, lodging, and any personal incidental charges.

There is no registration fee.

Sponsorship:

Lexis-Nexis will cover all conference materials and some meals.


Selection Criteria
:

The TRICALL Conference is open to all law librarians in court, county, government agency and membership library settings who  have some formal or informal instructional responsibilities. In making their decisions, the Selection Committee will strive for diversity in such areas as geographical distribution, type of organization, and an interest in teaching legal research, even if a program is not yet implemented.

:

The application process is completely electronic.  Deadline for application - March 31, 2003.

Notice of Acceptance:

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance April 9, 2003. Notification of acceptance will be by email. Acceptance is nontransferable.

Michael Buschmohle

Michael Buschmohle trains people around the world to communicate confidently. President of Applause Associates near Seattle, he is a speech coach (whose clients have appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America, and the Today show); speech writer (for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Washington State); coauthor of a book on PowerPoint 2002; artist and cartoonist; former hospital training director; and a former Catholic priest and retreat master. He is a faculty member of the National Center for State Courts and frequently trains librarians in Alaska and Washington State . He also teaches an MBA communications course regularly in Beijing, China.


Shirley David

Shirley Hart David is the Director of the Sacramento County Public Law Library. She works for a board of trustees of judges and attorneys. Library services are provided by a staff of nineteen at two facilities, its own and other training locations, and through the Internet. Previous to moving to California in 1983, Shirley worked at the Minnesota State Law Library for twelve years.

Shirley's current professional activities include: Advisor and columnist to Sacramento Lawyer; Member of the NOCALL Government Relations Committee; special libraries representative to the Sierra Valley Library Network Board; Steering Committee member of the Mountain Valley Library Network; Legislative Committee member and 24/7 Reference Project Coordinator for the Council of California County Law Librarians; Trustees Development Committee member of the State, Court, and County Law Library Special Interest Section of AALL; and member of the Professional Development Committee of AALL.

NOCALL awarded Shirley their Professional Achievement Award in 2001.  The Sacramento Barristers' Liberty Bell Award was presented to her 1985. She has served on the Executive Board and was a candidate for the office of Vice-President/President Elect of the American Association of Law Libraries. She has also served as Chair and Secretary/Treasurer of the State, Court County Special Interest Section and President of NOCALL and the Council of California County Law Libraries. Shirley has contributed to numerous committees at the local and national levels of our professional library organizations. She continually shares her knowledge as a speaker at workshops, annual meetings, and institutes of various library, bench, and bar, and technology related organizations. 

Shirley holds a degree in library science and political science from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota and a Total Quality Management Certificate from American River College in Sacramento.


David Lockwood

Dave is Deputy Circuit Librarian at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC. He performs managerial duties and provides reference and research services to the Judges and staff of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and a variety of other Library users, as well as overseeing the Courts' Computer Assisted Legal Research program. His particular field of expertise is Federal Legislative History. Dave has been with the Court for 21 years and earlier held positions in the Congressional Research Service and Law Library of the Library of Congress.

Dave is a member of AALL and LLSDC. He schedules and conducts in-house training and has taught other Federal Court Librarians as a participant in the Federal Courts Librarian Training Working Group.

Dave has a B.A. in history from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and an M.L.S. from the University of Maryland.

Elizabeth Terry Long

Terry is an Assistant Law Librarian at the Virginia State Law Library in Richmond, VA. She is responsible for the government documents collection. The State Law Library has a small staff which enables Terry to keep current most of the skills she learned in library school as she checks in, catalogues and shelves the government documents, takes care of the library's binding needs, and spends time at the reference desk. She has made presentations to the Judicial Branch law clerks on the use of the Internet for legal research for CLE credit. Additionally, she has made numerous presentations on the topic to other law related groups.

Terry is a member of AALL, SEAALL and VALL. Her service to AALL has been AMPSC for the 1998 meeting in Anaheim, Professional Development Committee 1998-2000 and she is currently on the Membership and Retention Committee. Terry is also the immediate past President of SEAALL, 2002-2003, and was president of VALL, 1995-1996. She also served a three year term on the Richmond Public Library Board, 1995-1998.

Terry received her B.A. from Stetson University and her M.S.L.S. from The Catholic University of America.

Regina Smith

Regina has been the Director of the Jenkins Law Library in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the past 20 years. She is responsible for the overall administration of the law library and a staff of 40 employees. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the College of Information Science & Technology at Drexel University. Prior to Jenkins, Regina was the Acting Director at Villanova University School of Law and Assistant Librarian at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis. 

Jenkins is a non-profit corporation that serves by statute as the county law library for Philadelphia, as well as serving the practicing bar through a membership program. She reports to a Board of Directors and serves at their pleasure. Jenkins recently celebrated its 200th Anniversary as America's First Law Library. 

In her present position, Regina has worked with architects and designers to plan a new library as well as renovations to the current facility. Regina has coordinated Jenkins' relocation to another building, managed three library renovation projects, automated the library, guided Jenkins through times of financial challenges, run successful fund raising campaigns, and implemented an ongoing "hands-on" Internet CLE program. 

Regina has served as President of the Greater Philadelphia Law Library Association as well as chairing various committees. She has also served as a member of several American Association of Law Libraries committees. She was most recently Chair of the State Court County Law Libraries Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries and has been an active committee member. 

Regina is a member of the Board of the Index to Legal Periodicals. She has served as Chair of the Pennsylvania Council of Library Networks, and as a member of various State Library Committees. She has also consulted to law libraries on various topics including space planning, relocating and integrating collections, administrative and budgeting issues, and collection development and management.

Regina received her B.A. from Rutgers University and her M.S. in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.
