Costs:

The selected participants are responsible for airfare to and from the conference, lodging, and any personal incidental charges.

There is no registration fee.

Sponsorship:

Lexis-Nexis will cover all conference materials and some meals.

Selection Criteria:

The TRICALL Conference is open to all law librarians in court, county, government agency and membership library settings who have some formal or informal instructional responsibilities. In making their decisions, the Selection Committee will strive for diversity in such areas as geographical distribution, type of organization, and an interest in teaching legal research, even if a program is not yet implemented.

How to Apply:

The application process is completely electronic.  Deadline for application - April 1, 2005.

Notice of Acceptance:

Applicants will be notified of their acceptance May 2, 2005. Notification of acceptance will be by email. Acceptance is nontransferable.

Michael Buschmohle

President of Applause Associates in Seattle, Michael Buschmohle trains people around the world to communicate confidently.  A specialist in presentation skills, business writing, and managing meetings, he conducts training for librarians, lawyers, judges, police officers, city and federal government officials, trainers, engineers, and for the Department of Homeland Security.  His clients have appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America and the Today Show.  He has written speeches for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Washington State, CEOs, executives at Microsoft, and political candidates.  He has conducted training for the Seattle Public Library, the Alaska and Washington State Library Associations, LexisNexis, and for the Library of the National Center for State Courts in Virginia.  Coauthor of a book on PowerPoint, he's also an artist, cartoonist, and he teaches an MBA communications seminar quarterly in Beijing, China.  Creator of the Performance Mapping© appraisal system, he's a former hospital training director and a former Catholic priest and retreat master. 


Jean Holcomb

Jean directs the activities of the King County Law Library’s downtown Seattle and Kent Branch libraries. She writes a column for the King County Bar Association’s monthly publication and serves on county and state bar committees. She also writes a regular column on law library management topics for Law Library Journal. She currently serves as chair of the AALL Nominations Committee, and as a member of both the SCCLL Resource Guide Committee and the LLOPS Professional Development Committee.

While she has been in her current position since 1992, Jean previously held positions as the Law Librarian for the Norfolk Law Library and as the Assistant Director of the Law School Library at the University of Alabama. She has taught legal research courses in a variety of settings including courses for law students, paralegal students, library school students, students in a graduate program in tax accounting, and probate judges.

Jean received her B.A. from the University of North Dakota and her M.L.S. and JD degrees from the University of Alabama.


Judy Meadows

Judy has been the State Law Librarian of Montana since 1984. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Great Falls and a visiting professor at the University of Washington. She has taught numerous smaller groups of public librarians, paralegals, attorneys, court employees and citizens.

Judy is a past President of the American Association of Law Libraries, a past Chair of the State, Court & County Law Libraries Special Interest Section, and a past President of the Western Pacific Chapter of AALL. She chaired AALL’s Professional Development Committee, and has served on the State Bar of Montana’s Continuing Legal Education Board.

The Montana Bar Association presented Judy with both their Distinguished Service Award and their Pro Bono Publico Award. Judy currently chairs Montana’s Commission on Self-Represented Litigants. She also serves on the Montana Supreme Court’s Equal Justice Taskforce and the Court’s Commission on Technology. She provides consulting services for the National Center for State Courts on issues affecting law libraries and legal information services.


Maralena Murphy

Maralena, the Satellite Librarian for the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana began her judicial career in 1979 with the Clerk of Court office, Middle District of Louisiana. She was promoted to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Library in 1982. As a solo librarian, she provides reference and research services to the Judges and staff of the United States District Court, Middle District of Louisiana, and to members of the local bar.

She attended Louisiana State University and received her Paralegal degree in 1988.

Maralena is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, Special Libraries Association, and served as president of the Baton Rouge Paralegal Association for the 1999-2000 term. She is the current Treasurer of the Baton Rouge Area Association of Law Libraries and participates in numerous activities in the local legal community, such as, annual District Court Open Doors to Justice Program, and Law Day held at the 19th Judicial District Court.


Betsy Vipperman

Betsy is Senior Law Librarian at the Appellate Division Law Library in Rochester, NY. She directs all public services functions of the library including reference, circulation, and interlibrary services and provides reference assistance to the Court, attorneys, and the general public. She regularly conducts CLE accredited legal reference classes for attorneys and court personnel, as well as presentations on legal resources for non-law librarians. Betsy has been with the Appellate Division for 7 years. Prior to coming to New York, she worked at the Wisconsin State Law Library and the Texas State Law Library.

Betsy is a member of AALL, ALLUNY, and the immediate past President of the New York State Unified Court Law Libraries Association.

Betsy received her B.A. in Communication from Florida State University and her M.L.I.S. from the University of Texas at Austin.
