Tracking Landmark Cases with Shepard’s Alert™
(October 2005)
In August, 2005, LexisNexis®
introduced Shepard’s Alert™, a remarkable new way to track
future treatment of a case. Shepard’s Alert™ automates the
process of updating a Shepard's report on a regular basis and
notifies you of changes.
You can also customize Shepard's Alert by specifying the
types of changes you would like to track, such as new negative
treatment, new citing cases from a particular jurisdiction, or new
citing cases dealing with a particular LexisNexis®
Headnote.
For example, you might be interested in the Supreme Court case
MGM Studios Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd (2005 U.S. LEXIS 5212).
You can track MGM Studios with Shepard’s Alert by following
the below steps:
- Click the Alerts tab at the
top of any LexisNexis® at lexis.com® page.
- Click the Shepard's
Alert tab.
- Enter the citation 2005 US
LEXIS 5212 in the Create a New Shepard’s Alert
form, and you've successfully set up your Shepard’s
Alert.
