New CourtLink® Patent Related Enhancements

In July 2006, LexisNexis CourtLink® released broader Search and Alert functionality for patent-related dockets. IP litigators can use these features to strategize the presentation of their cases to courts.

The new Search features augment the existing ability to search for litigation on a particular patent number by allowing broader searches related to:

  • All dockets related to a patent class and subclass
  • All patent related dockets in a particular court

Searching on a patent class and subclass provides users with a better understanding of the litigation issues that can arise in a given group of patents.  These searches also help determine how a particular court responds to those issues. This functionality allows the IP litigator to develop a litigation strategy based on techniques successfully or unsuccessfully used by others as to a class or subclass of patent. If a user is interested in how a particular court will treat different patent litigation strategies, he or she needs only to run a search for patent-related dockets in the appropriate court.

New Alert features allow a user to create Alerts based on patent classes and subclasses, as well as the traditional patent number Alert. This enhanced Alert feature is designed to keep the IP litigator abreast of developing issues, trends and strategies currently emerging in litigation surrounding patent classes or subclasses.
