Search Advisor: Your Tool for Faster Research

In November, 2005, LexisNexis® introduced some new functionality, as well as thousands of new topics, to Lexis® Search Advisor. With these additions, we have made finding relevant documents on a particular topic much easier, more efficient, and less frustrating.

The first change you’ll notice is that most top-level topics are now included on the main Search Advisor page, taking some of the guesswork out of choosing a starting point.

Once a top-level topic is selected, subtopics are presented in a Table of Contents format, allowing you to drill down to a more specific topic. Once you find the topic you like, click on its name to retrieve a search form that allows you to choose a jurisdiction and enter search terms.

Sounds like the way it’s always been, right? Well, now you don’t have to drill down to a very specific topic before running your search!

In the past, if you wanted to search for cases dealing with age discrimination, you were required to drill down through Labor & Employment Law, Discrimination, and Age Discrimination, and then finally forced to pick a more specific topic, such as Defenses, Enforcement, or Remedies.

But now, if you don’t want to limit yourself to the lowest-level topics, you can choose Age Discrimination to run a search through all of its subtopics. In fact, you can choose to run a search at any level within a top-level topic, including the top-level topic itself!

This new functionality allows you to run a search through cases that discuss any aspect of Discrimination or even all cases with the Labor & Employment Law topic.
