There are many different ways of finding biographical information on the LexisNexis services.  The following sample searches illustrate common methods using segment searching.

Segment:  Name

Use a NAME segment search to find biographical information when you know the person's name in  For example, take the following steps to find biographical information about Jerry Seinfeld in Biographies Plus News:

1. Click the Legal source tab.
2. Choose the source selection path:
   Reference / Biographies / Biographies Plus News
3. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
4. Enter name ( jerry w/3 seinfeld ) or person (jerry w/3 seinfeld ) in the search field.
5. Click Search.

To find biographies about Dean Martin in News & Business sources:

1. Choose the source selection path:
   News / Industry & Topic / Entertainment & Arts / Entertainment News Biographies
2. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
3. Enter name ( dean w/3 martin ) in the search field.
4. Click Search.

Segment:  Occupation

Use an OCCUPATION segment search to find biographies about individuals in a certain profession. For example, to search the Marquis Who's Who Biographies to find biographies on astronauts:

1. Click the Legal source tab.
2. Choose the source selection path:
   Reference / Biographies / Marquis Who's Who Biographies
3. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
4. Enter occupation ( astronaut ) in the search field.
5. Click Search.

Use a PRIMARY-CERT and an ADDRESS segment search to find biographical information about physicians with a particular medical specialty in a specific location. For example, to find biographies on plastic surgeons in Atlanta using The Official American Board of Medical Specialties:

1. Click the Legal source tab.
2. Choose the source selection path:
   Reference / Medical / The Official American Board of Medical Specialties
3. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
4. Enter primary-cert ( plastic surg! ) and address ( atlanta ) in the search field.
5. Click Search.

Segment:  Company

Use a COMPANY segment search to find biographies about individuals who are major executives of publicly held companies. For example, take the following steps to find biographies on Microsoft's Bill Gates using SEC Proxy Statements:

1. Click the News & Business source tab.
2. Choose the source selection path:
   Company & Financial / Financial Filings / U.S. Financial Filings / SEC Proxy Statements
3. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
4. Enter company ( microsoft ) and bill or william w/3 gates in the search field.
5. Click Search.

Segment:  Office

Use an OFFICE segment search to find biographies about members of Congress. For example, take the following steps to find biographies in Member Biographical Profiles-Current Congress about members of Congress from Ohio:

1. Click the Legal source tab.
2. Choose the source selection path:
   Reference / General / Member Biographical Profiles-Current Congress
3. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
4. Enter office ( ohio ) in the search field.
5. Click Search.
