Bibliography On the Fly
(December 31, 2004)
You’ve been asked by a patron to compile a
list of Matthew Bender titles online, or your new associate, who
specializes in Patent Law, wonders what Patent resources are available
at www.lexis.com. With either inquiry, there’s a simple way to
create a bibliography on the fly. Simply point your browser to
www.lexisnexis.com/sourcelists
(This is also available in the drop-down menu under “Research Tools for
Librarians.” Click on Directory of Online Sources, and then
click on Source Lists by Topic on the left hand side.)
To see what Matthew Bender®
titles (or other major publishers, such as Aspen, BNA and CCH), simply
scroll down to the Publisher pull-down menu and choose “Matthew Bender”
from the list. To see what patent resources are on www.lexis.com,
scroll up to Area of Law and choose “Patent Law.” A list of
patent resources will be generated in pdf format.
Don’t forget that you can also easily compile a state bibliography by
scrolling down to state, then choosing the appropriate state from the
pull down menu. Voila, you’ve got a list of state resources on
www.lexis.com, ready to hand to a patron!
For more in-depth information about individual titles, use the
Directory of Online Sources. Simply type in the publication name
and click on “Submit”. A list of titles will be generated. To see the
file in more detail, click on the title and the source information gives
you the title, where it is indexed in the source selection locator, the
frequency, and other important information.
