SmartIndexing: Determining the Correct Index Terms to Use
(April 1, 2005)

Although LexisNexis SmartIndexing Technology looks for name, spelling, and other variations within documents when assigning index terms, it does not automatically equate your search terms to the standard term. Therefore, if you are unsure of the correct index terms to use, we recommend you do the following:

  • Review, and perhaps bookmark, the list of subject index terms referenced above to become familiar with index terms you may use frequently.
  • For the Quick Search tool on the Home page, consider entering the few name or spelling variations that you are aware of. (This refers to the InfoPro Lookup Tool.)
  • When using search forms (if you have not looked up the exact term), enter name and spelling variations separated by the OR connector. For example, TERMS(e-commerce or electronic commerce).

    Format this page for printing.
