Shepard’s® Alert is Watching Even When You Can’t
(January 16, 2006)

Shepard’s® Alert is a new way to use a favorite citation tool.  It gives you a productivity tool that is not only a time-saver, but also gives you the confidence of knowing you haven’t missed a change that could impact whether or not you win a case.

Anything that can be Shepardized® can be set up as an Alert.  The Shepard’s Alert feature automatically Shepardizes your cases and notifies you of the changes via email or online.  It alerts you to:

  • Shepard's Signal™ indicator changes
  • additional/new citing references to a case
  • regularly scheduled Shepard's reports that update a particular citation

You can identify the specific parameters of the updates, including the citation treatment, jurisdiction, and frequency of delivery.  The results will be delivered to you based on the options you chose. You can even suspend the Alert service during vacations and extended absences.

It only takes as few simple steps to set up your Shepard’s Alert:

  • Click on the Shepard’s Tab
  • Enter the citation to be checked in the box, click ‘CHECK’
  • On the Shepard’s screen, click on ‘SAVE AS SHEPARD’S ALERT’ link
  • At the setup screen,
    • assign a name to the Alert,
    • choose the changes to be monitored
    • specify the frequency of the report
    • determine the delivery options
    • Click ‘CONTINUE’
  • On the confirmation screen, click ‘SAVE’

And sit back and wait for the emails with changes.
