InfoPro Home > Training & Tutorials > Research Tips Negative News Search Revisited As we all know searching for just the negative stories about a person or company can be a daunting task. We have all been asked to find out “dirt” on a person or a company when the firm is considering taking them on as a client, or when the corporate attorneys are putting together information for an SEC filing. Earlier this year one of my colleagues provided a search tip to assist you in finding negative news stories. The suggestion was to use the search template available on the Research Task Page for Securities. This is still a good choice; but I have additional tips to share for this task. The LexisNexis SmartIndexing team has developed some indexing “tags” that can help you conduct a search to retrieve just the negative stories. Mega Negative News sources available under “Featured Content & Services” provides a link for “Negative News”, and a choice for Mega News, Negative Business News or Negative Personal News. Or, you can use the following SmartIndexing “tags” to formulate your search. Use #st0009fjk# to retrieve negative personal news and #st0009qd4# to retrieve negative business news.
