Love Command Stacking?  Try the LN Toolbar!

Librarians tell us that they loved the ability to stack their commands using the old LN software.  It was very useful to be able to put in your search terms and date restrictions – and even choose your database and file -- before signing onto Lexis.  Did you know you can still do that on lexis.com using the LN Toolbar?  That’s right.  Command stacking has never been easier!

You can download the LN Toolbar at www.lexisnexis.com/toolbar.  (If for some reason you’re not able to download from this site, contact your Librarian Relations Consultant, who can send you a CD that allows you to upload the toolbar to your desktop.)

Once the toolbar is loaded, it will appear at the top of the page every time you open a browser.  For those sources you use all the time, you can even drag and drop them into the “Recently Used Sources” list.  This becomes your “favorites” list, and it makes accessing those sources a simple click away.

For example, if I am asked to find an article on Helen Mirren that appeared in the Los Angeles Times last week, I can easily type in helen mirren and date aft 1/17/2007

In the search box, click on the Los Angeles Times, which I have placed in my recently used sources list, and click search.  Because I have my LN ID and Password saved, I get to my search results in mere seconds.  The alternative is to open a separate browser, sign onto lexis.com, click on the News & Business Tab, find the Los Angeles Times, enter my search and date restrictions and hit enter.  I literally go from five or six clicks to one!

And don’t forget how easily one can “get a document” or Shepardize™ by simply typing in the citation, or blocking and copying it from an email or a document.  In the pulldown list of sources, Get a Document or Shepard’s is easy to locate, and within seconds you’ve got your document.

It’s one more way that the LexisNexis Toolbar saves you time!
