The American Marketplace: a Warehouse of Demographic Data

A host of comprehensive sources for recent demographic data is available on lexis.com®. The American Marketplace is a reference that provides in-depth marketing
analysis, based upon the latest data collected mainly from the federal
government the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the National
Center for Education Statistics, and the National Center for Health Statistics.
The publication's findings are divided into eight sections: Education, Health,
Income, Labor Force, Living Arrangements, Population, Spending, and Wealth.

It is an invaluable resource for anyone who needs the latest demographic and spending data, but doesn't have the time to search for the numbers and figure out what they mean. Tables are user-friendly, and the U.S. population is examined in rich detail, from the proportion of immigrants who settle in California to the amount of money people spend on entertainment. It also looks into the future, with projections of population, workers and industries. Coverage is from 1992 through current.

Use a free-text search to find recent demographic data for the US on a particular topic. For example, take the following steps to find statistics on education:

  1. Click the Search tab.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search The American Marketplace:
    Market & Industry / Geo-Demographics / The American Marketplace
NOTE: Because the LexisNexis services list some of the most popular sources on the main search page, you can often link to the source you want directly from the Look for a Source box.
  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter educat! w/25 state in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

The American Marketplace is only one of dozens of demographic sources on lexis.com. All of them are equally as rich in information and easy to use.
