Looking for information on a Company?

Have one of your attorneys or the Marketing Department ever requested the library staff gather information on a company that you have never heard of?
For those of you who are LexisNexis® services users, the source I am going to cover in this week’s tip will be familiar. To others it may be a new source for you to discover.

The Compny;compny source searches across many company directories, company profiles, executive profiles, SEC filings, merger and acquisition transactions and covers more than 200,000 public and private U.S. companies as well as thousands of companies from around the world.

I find it one of the best starting points if I don’t know anything about a company. This is a cost-effective source because it searches many sources at one time. Included are two of my favorite sources— Directory of Corporate Affiliations™ and Hoover’s®.

Here’s an example: I have been told there is a company with the word “gaggle” in the name and that is all of the information I have. I enter the search “Company (gaggle)” and 15 results are returned. Now I have a list of companies with additional information that helps me continue my research for the company that my attorney or Marketing Department have requested.

This source can be found by following the path News & Business>Company & Financial>All Company Information (excluding Investext and D&B).
