New Lexis Web - Now Use the Beta Version to Target Legal Authority via the Web
Quick! What's the best reason to search the open Web? Free Web content, of course.
Now … what's the worst part of searching the open Web? That's right... an avalanche of thousands of irrelevant sites and documents that flood your screen and obscure the few vital resources you need. Happy hunting.
But you can have the good without the bad. New Lexis Web-now available to you in beta version-is a legal-specific search engine that serves up free Web content, but only from legal sites vetted by LexisNexis® attorney editors.
Save time and weed out irrelevant documents because you start your Web research with sites that have been validated by LexisNexis editors as having value for a legal researcher.
Need more research accuracy once you get your results? No problem. Lexis Web offers state-of-the art filtering tools, so you can:
- Narrow your results easily and effectively. Just select a specific legal topic from the respected LexisNexis legal taxonomy—available via your results screen. You can't do that on Google™ or with any other online legal publisher's Web search engine.
- Find documents that reference specific people, companies, locations, key words, etc. Lexis Web utilizes LexisNexis SmartIndexing Technology™ indexing terms to recognize names, locations, etc. Even filter your results to documents that reference more than one entity. Another Lexis Web exclusive.
- Pinpoint documents that reference a specific citation—case or statute—that is more likely to be on point. Unlike Google, Lexis Web applies the LexisNexis cite-finding engine to index legal citations embedded in the documents.
Plus see recommended lexis.com® sources-and move to search them in one step. Just link and enter your LexisNexis® ID and password. You're at the search box for the source you selected-ready to continue your research without down time.
Lexis Web is available only at www.lexisweb.com

Add these resources to your exclusive LexisNexis resources:
- Regularly cited treatises from Matthew Bender such as Collier on Bankruptcy®, Chisum on Patents, Nimmer on Copyright®, Moore's Federal Practice®, California Forms of Pleading and Practice and others.
- The reliability and editorial accuracy of Shepard's Citations Service.
- Up-to-date news coverage provided by Mealey's™ Litigation Reports.
- 87 million dockets and documents available through the CourtLink® service.
- LexisNexis Search By Topic or Headnote, which allows you to search across cases, codes, treatises and law-review content to better frame issues and locate relevant, on-point materials.
How can you use these new resources in conjunction with your lexis.com analytical sources?
For example, ALR provides an in-depth treatment of a specific legal issue, including useful summary and interpretation of the specific issue—both for and against issue propositions—as well as case annotations for all jurisdictions. Link to relevant statutes and law review articles.
However, while ALR provides broad coverage, it may not offer enough specifics that you need. And ALR cases can sometimes be out-of-date. LexisNexis analytical content provides detailed analysis of the immediate issue and related issues, giving you the broadest scope. Plus LexisNexis analytical content is updated more frequently to keep you current on issues.
Witkin and LexisNexis California analytical sources are also complementary. You will find practical information as well as academic. Witkin offers an academic overview of the law. LexisNexis California Forms of Pleading & Practice gives information in bulleted format or short text. Additionally, the Matthew Bender® Practice Guides provide the checklists that you will appreciate.
