West Virginia court chooses LexisNexis
Dayton Business Journal - 11:24 AM EDT Tuesday

The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals will use LexisNexis U.S.'s system for managing electronic filing and service, the local company announced Tuesday.

Miami Township-based LexisNexis said the system, using the company's File & Serve product, will launch before the 2006 summer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The product will provide the high court with electronic filing of appeals, automated docketing and real-time online access to filed documents as well as direct links to LexisNexis legal citations. It will first be implemented for worker's compensation cases, which make up the bulk of the cases that come before the court.

The use of technology in the courtroom is part of the court's ongoing effort to serve its constituents and improve the management of the appeals process, said Rory Perry, clerk of court.

File & Serve is used in jurisdictions in 25 states and is used statewide in Colorado and Delaware, according to LexisNexis. It provides improved access to court documents, streamlines the intake process and eliminates the physical delivery of paper documents, all of which improve court operations, according to the company.

LexisNexis is a unit of Reed Elsevier plc, the Anglo-Dutch publishing conglomerate. The company is an online information services and publishing company with 3,100 local employees and 13,000 people worldwide. It has annual revenue of $2.68 billion.
