Built-In Research Power! New LexisNexis® Public Records Interface Offers Much More than Additional Resources

By now you've probably seen the new LexisNexis Public Records interface at the lexis.com® PUBLIC RECORDS tab. It offers more information right up front—i.e., details on more than 450 million unique individuals, 150 million unique businesses and 2,013 tax-assessor counties.

But the biggest news may be that the new interface now includes new researching features and functionality—much of it built right in—that give you and your organization (even novice searchers) an opportunity to find and connect people, businesses and locations in ways never before possible.

Here are some examples. (Think of it as a checklist of "really cool" new things you can accomplish while researching with the LexisNexis Public Records Interface.)

  • See search results—even those outside your subscription.
When you select Comprehensive Person, Business or Location searches, your reports include the We Also Found box, which shows the number of documents found in sources outside your subscription. You know what's there. You can even purchase source content—if you choose—without a subscription. Pricing information is only a click away.

  • View a "sitemap" and links to all lexis.com public records resources.
Select any source. Look at the top of the search form. You'll see tabs to take you to other Public Records search forms. Click the All Searches tab. See every lexis.com Public Records resource at a glance—and link to any search form. Fast and easy. A great starting point.

  • Tap into more source types
Employment Locator shows you where your targets may have worked in the past—and how highly they were held in confidence. Sexual Offenders offers details from criminal justice agencies from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. And Real Property Foreclosures covers loan defaults from 46 states—and some records go back as far as 1981.

  • And discover more coverage in existing resources.
The new Public Records interface also brings expanded coverage of familiar sources too. Now find more jurisdictions for marriage & divorce records, deeds, mortgages, tax-assessor records, driver's licenses, civil and criminal courts, professional licenses, etc.

New Shepard's Statute Reports: One View Shows Affecting Legislation, Pending Bills and Citing Cases

Now when you verify an Ohio Revised Code section with Shepard's® Citations Service, you'll discover a new, all-inclusive Shepard's statute report covering all subsections. See vital references at a glance with new exclusive Shepard's Summary for Statutes, and link quickly to the major actions that undermine a statute.

  • Negative citing case treatment. It's easy with the new Shepard's Signal™ indicator for statutes.
  • New affecting legislation—in full text.
  • Pending legislation.

You'll also find more citing references, such as law reviews; Matthew Bender® treatises; federal briefs, pleadings and motions; and some U.S. agencies decisions, including IRS and NLRB decisions.

This is the future of Shepard's for statutes. Throughout 2009, additional states—and the United States Code Service—will be available in this new format.

To Shepardize® a statute:

  1. Click the SHEPARD'S tab at the top of your lexis.com screen. (To Shepardize the section you are viewing, click the document's Shepardize link.)
  2. Enter your citation, e.g., orc 4511.19
  3. Select Shepard's for Validation (KWIC™) or Shepard's for Research (Full). Full is the default.
  4. Click Check.

You're ready to research: Click here to review the screen image.

  1. New! See all vital affecting authority at a glance—and link to full-text documents.
  2. New! The red exclamation point indicates that citing references contain strong negative treatment.
  3. Click any analysis to move to citing references with that treatment phrase.
  4. New! Need to refine by subsection? Click to see the exact subsection and its citing references.
