FAQs
Is PCLaw just for smaller firms?
No. PCLaw has more than 30,000 customers of all sizes worldwide, from sole practitioners to larger-scale practices with 25 timekeepers or more.
What can firms do with PCLaw?
PCLaw offers a comprehensive collection of billing and accounting tools. Please review the Features page for a detailed list of its capabilities.
What makes PCLaw different from other billing and accounting software?
Designed specifically for law firms, PCLaw is the most widely used legal billing and accounting software in North America and is trusted by more than 30,000 customers worldwide. It offers legal-specific functionality such as trust accounting, e-billing and law firm specific productivity reports not often found in general billing/accounting packages. PCLaw is also recognized as being easy to start up and use, as well as having a total cost of ownership that is generally lower than most competing products because it requires less training and includes features that many others charge extra for.
With its broad scope of capabilities, broad adoption within the legal market and comprehensive support services, PCLaw is a clear choice for today's law firms.
Does PCLaw do more than just billing and accounting?
While PCLaw is designed primarily to be used as a billing and accounting system, it does offer a collection of practice management tools to help your firm manage information and activities related to your clients and cases. These tools provide you with the means to manage your contacts, tasks and appointments, case notes, phone and e-mail communications, documents and more.
If your practice management needs are more advanced, PCLaw can also integrate with industry-leading Time Matters® and LexisNexis Total Practice AdvantageTM as well as other solutions such as Amicus Attorney® and Needles®.
How many software licenses do I need?
There is no limit to the number of computer workstations the PCLaw application itself can be installed on. Software licenses for PCLaw determine the number of unique timekeepers you can define within the software, as well as the number of users who can access and work within the PCLaw software at the same time.
To determine how many licenses you need, just count the number of unique timekeepers you will need (attorneys, paralegals, clerks, etc.), and then count the number of staff members who may need to actively work with the PCLaw software at any given point during the day. Typically the higher of these two numbers reflects the appropriate number of licenses you should order.
Can I convert data from my existing billing and/or accounting system?
Yes. PCLaw offers free utilities and paid services that can ease your transition from an existing billing or accounting system. Firms have successfully converted from a wide variety of commercial software packages such as Intuit® QuickBooks®, Timeslips®, Compulaw®, Esilaw®, Manac® and Tabs3TM, as well as a number of custom-developed applications.
What if we order PCLaw and then decide not to keep it?
PCLaw comes with a 60-day money back guarantee—twice as long as the industry standard. If you determine that the PCLaw software will not meet your firm’s needs, you may contact our customer care team to request a refund.
