New genetic analysis split Killer Whales into 4+ species

Turn on the Science Channel or Animal Planet, and until very recently Killer Whales (actually a type of oceanic dolphin) were described as a single unitary species.

Now, genetic analysis indicates that in fact they are at least four species, perhaps more.  This has important implications for species conservation and habitat preservation.

The study, recently published in Genome Research, can be found at http://genome.cshlp.org/content/early/2010/04/15/gr.102954.109.abstract.
