CA5 on Hague Convention, Asylum: Sanchez v. R.G.L.

Prof. Geoffrey A. Hoffman writes: "This is a new and interesting published decision in which your readers may be interested.  The panel came down 2-1.  Remand with instructions to consider asylum relating to Hague Convention proceedings - this is an issue of first impression.  Professor Lee Teran at St. Mary's represented the minor children and then we at the University of Houston stepped in on appeal as co-counsel, as well attorneys at the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP.  The firm’s attorney, Nick Grimmer, argued the case.  In addition, U.C. Hastings School of Law Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (represented by Latham & Watkins LLP) and Kids in Need of Defense (represented by Baker & McKenzie LLP) also appeared as amici on the appeal."
