OCAHO Reduces I-9 Fine from $90K to $25K: USA v. Century Hotels

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE or the government) filed a four-count complaint alleging that Century Hotels Corporation, d.b.a. Scottsdale Thunderbird Suites (Century or the company) engaged in ninety-one violations of 8 U.S.C. § 1324a(a)(1)(B). ... The total penalty sought was $89,806.75. ... It is undisputed that Century is a small business, that there are no indications of bad faith, and that the company has no history of previous violations. ... Considering the record as a whole and the statutory factors in particular, the penalties in this case will be assessed at the rate of $500 each for the nineteen violations remaining in Count IV, totaling $9500, and $400 each for the forty paperwork violations in Counts I, II, and III, totaling $16,000. The total penalty is $25,500." - USA v. Century Hotels, May 27, 2014.
