Pakistani Denver Man Wins Temporary Reprieve

December 07, 2006 (1 min read)

"U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer on Wednesday temporarily blocked the deportation of a Pakistani man in Denver who was convicted of misdemeanor assault three years ago. Attorneys for Haroon Rashid, who came to the United States legally, have said the conviction does not meet the standard necessary under federal immigration law to justify deportation. Breyer's order will remain in effect while the full Supreme Court considers whether to take his appeal of the deportation order." AP, Dec. 7, 2006.
