Iraq War Army Veteran Now Immigration Reform Activist

November 14, 2013 (1 min read)

"Francisco Lema has become an immigration activist — in great part because the Ecuadorian-born Iraq war veteran has family members who are undocumented.  “I still have some relatives that live here in New York, that unfortunately don’t have their papers,” said Lema, 33, who now lives in Corona, Queens after two tours in Iraq and seven years in the U.S. Army.  Lema has been spending Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights at prayer vigils in front of Rep. Michael Grimm's Staten Island office, urging the Republican to back reform." - Erica Pearson, NY Daily News, Nov. 10, 2013.
