Stradling Adds Prominent Southern California IP Litigator As Shareholder

SAN DIEGO - Alexandra ("Alex") Mahaney, an IP litigation shareholder, has joined Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth as a shareholder, in its San Diego office and as a member of Stradling's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group.

Mahaney was formerly a partner at the San Diego office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

Mahaney's practice focuses on patent litigation in a wide range of industries and technologies. Among other areas, Mahaney has extensive experience litigating patent cases in the life sciences field, including cases involving medical devices, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and biotechnology. She also has substantial experience in Abbreviated New Drug Application  litigation, where she has represented both brand and generic pharmaceutical companies.

Mahaney's practice also involves other types of intellectual property litigation and related business litigation, including cases involving trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition, false advertising, antitrust, and licensing and contract disputes. Her practice includes counseling on all types of intellectual property and associated issues. She also has extensive experience managing worldwide trademark portfolios.

Mahaney served on the committee that wrote the Patent Local Rules for the Southern District of California. She lectures to in-house counsel and industry groups on litigation strategy as well as intellectual property issues relevant to the life sciences industry. She also co-authored a chapter called "Discovery and Privilege," in a Practicing Law Institute resource guide entitled, "Patent Litigation."

Courts of admission include U.S. District Court, Southern, Central and Northern. She is also admitted to practice by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mahaney received her J.D. [Order of the Coif] from UCLA Law School in 1986 where she served as associate editor, UCLA Law Review. Before that, she received her B.S., Mechanical Engineering, from Brown University in 1981.

Stradling has recently hired several well-respected Southern California attorneys, adding Laura Fleming as an employment law shareholder, Yuri Mikulka in IP litigation and Benjamin Kwon and Shahzad Malik in taxation.

Mahaney will be joining the firm's San Diego office and will also have an office in Newport Beach.
