New Agreement Makes LexisNexis Exclusive Third-Party Distributor Of Industry-Leading Legal Content From ALM

Agreement provides legal professionals unmatched legal news, business and practice area information and early case assessment content to help them create better outcomes

NEW YORK - (BUSINESS WIRE) LexisNexis (www.lexisnexis.com), a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow solutions, today announced they have signed a licensing agreement with ALM (www.alm.com), a leading provider of specialized business news and information focused primarily on the legal and commercial real estate sectors, in which LexisNexis will be the exclusive third party online distributor of ALM's broad collection of industry-leading legal content worldwide.

ALM content will be available via the LexisNexis® services starting on May 1, 2011.

"The exclusive agreement with ALM is the latest example of our continuing investment to provide legal professionals the critical content they trust and need to do their jobs," said Bob Romeo, CEO of Research & Litigation Solutions at LexisNexis. "Through agreements like this, our customers efficiently find what they need and gain insight through productivity tools and premium content they cannot get anywhere else."

"LexisNexis is one of the most highly respected technology companies in the legal services industry and we're pleased that our content will be available on their various online platforms," said Bill Pollak, President and CEO of ALM. "This agreement will ensure that our award-winning journalism and broad range of legal content will be widely distributed to members of the global legal profession."

Last month, ALM's publications, websites and journalists were honored as finalists 18 times, more than any other publisher, at the annual presentation of the coveted Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards. Known as "the Pulitzer Prizes of the business media," the Neal Awards are given by trade association American Business Media to "recognize and reward editorial excellence."

According to research fielded by LexisNexis, more than nine in ten large law firm (95%) and corporate legal professionals (92%) who use a fee-based information aggregation service to access news and business information as part of their job indicate that access to "legal news" within their service is important. Another study by LexisNexis found that among those who search for or use secondary legal information to understand legal issues or topics, nearly three-quarters (74%) do so at least weekly.

Under terms of the agreement, LexisNexis delivers this type of valuable content as the exclusive third party online distributor of current and archived versions of ALM legal news publications. This includes premier ALM sources including The National Law Journal®, The American Lawyer®, The Recorder®, Law Technology News®, Corporate Counsel®, New York Law Journal®, New Jersey Law Journal®, The Legal Intelligencer®, and Texas Lawyer®, as well as regional and national newsletters, daily alerts, directories, blogs, legal treatises, forms & practice guides, industry rankings, expert witness directories, judicial biographies, published and unpublished court opinions, and other vital sources of legal information.

Further, the combination of verdicts and settlements from ALM coupled with the existing collection of verdicts and settlements already available from LexisNexis establishes LexisNexis as the most complete online resource for this vital set of legal information.

LexisNexis customers will be able to access and use ALM content - along with thousands of other worldwide news sources, Mealey'sTM and Matthew Bender® legal news, and early case assessment content from LexisNexis - through subscription to the LexisNexis® services via lexis.com® and nexis.com®. ALM content will also be available through other services such as LexisNexis® Litigation Profile Suite, LexisNexis® Verdict & Settlement Analyzer, and LexisNexis® Publisher products.

About LexisNexis User Research

Research findings reporting the importance of access to legal news were taken from a December 2010 - January 2011 survey conducted by LexisNexis among 1,036 lawyers, and other legal professionals that use a fee-based information aggregation service to access news and business information as part of their job. Importance was discerned by those answering 7 or higher on a 10 point scale to the question: How important is each of the following types of news information to have in your fee-based aggregation services? Findings on the frequency of use of secondary legal content were taken from a survey conducted by LexisNexis in June - July 2010 among 1,130 legal professionals and law students who search for or use secondary information to understand legal issues or topics. Usage was determined by those that indicated weekly or more often to the question: How often do you search for or use secondary information to understand legal issues or topics?
