Detroit Says Automatic Stay Should Cover Operations Of 36th District Court

DETROIT - The bankrupt City of Detroit on Oct. 15 filed a brief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan arguing that the Bankruptcy Court should extend the automatic stay to cover funding for the operation of the 36th District Court of Michigan, which the city argues is "inextricably intertwined" with the city and is entirely dependent on the city for the finances needed to continue operating (In Re: City of Detroit, No. 13-53846, Chapter 9, E.D. Mich. Bkcy.).
