Judge Won't Grant Stay Of Execution Of Judgment In Debt Collection Lawsuit

DETROIT - A debt collector is not entitled to a stay of execution of a judgment against it for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) because its payment of the judgment to a consumer's creditor rather than the consumer himself does not satisfy the court's judgment, a federal judge in Michigan ruled Oct. 22 (Abdelhamid Isa v. Law Office of Timothy Baxter & Associates, No. 13-11284, E.D. Mich.; 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 150566).
