Montana Judge Finds For Insurers In Suit Arising From Abuse Claims Against Diocese

HELENA, Mont. - Acknowledging the "horrific injuries" that claimants may have incurred in underlying sexual abuse cases against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena, Mont., a Montana judge on Oct. 22 held that it would be unreasonable to require the diocese's insurers to provide coverage for events that occurred prior to its policies' inception dates (William C. Whalen, et al. v. The Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America, et al., No, BDV-2012-976, Mont., 1st D.C., Lewis and Clark Co.).
