Louisiana Appeals Panel Affirms Top Lease Executed To Protect, Not Replace, Lease

SHREVEPORT, La. - A unanimous Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal panel issued an opinion Nov. 20 affirming judgment against a property owner who sought a declaration that a protection lease executed more than 20 years after the initial mineral lease on the same parcel entitled him to increased royalties (Fannie Clyde Barham, et al. v. St. Mary Land & Exploration Co., et al., No. 48,603, La. App., 2nd Cir.).
