Mealey's IP/Tech - 6th Circuit: Woman's Claims Against Web Site Barred By Communications Decency Act

CINCINNATI - Reversing a lower court's ruling, a Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals panel on June 16 held that the operators of a gossip web site were immune from a former cheerleader's defamation claims under the Communications Decency Act (CDA) because the purportedly false and offensive postings were authored by third parties and not the site operators (Sarah Jones v. Dirty World LLC, et al., No. 13-5946, 6th Cir.; 2014 U.S. App. LEXIS 11106).
