The lobbyist for the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board said on October 29 that he continues to meet with members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee to urge them to push forward on the federal Marketplace Fairness Act (MFA, S. 743). He said he is optimistic that more contact from constituents could spur the committee to hold a hearing. "You can't weigh in too many times," said Charlie Sewell, speaking to a group assembled for the governing board's fall meeting in Madison, Wis. Sewell also said that he, governing board executive director Craig Johnson, and Utah state Sen. Wayne Harper (R), the governing board's president, met on October 25 with the Senate sponsors of the MFA. He characterized the Senate sponsors as being highly committed to the bill.
