Debate on Taxes Resumes as Senate Passes Debt Ceiling Suspension

The Senate on January 31 voted to suspend the nation's borrowing limit until May 19 while the debate over taxes was slowly starting to pick up again.
The No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013 (H.R. 325), passed by a 64-34 vote, includes a provision that puts a hold on legislators' pay if their chamber of Congress fails to approve a budget resolution by April 15. The House passed the bill 285 to 144 January 23.
The bill's passage makes the sequester the most immediate fiscal crisis Congress faces, and Democratic senators the week of January 28 began discussing ways to raise revenue to help offset billions of dollars in spending cuts scheduled to hit in one month.
