Employers May Face New Silica Rules When The Dust Settles

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently released notice of a proposed rule to set a new permissible exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica. A dramatic change to the current PEL level, the proposed rule brings economic and logistical concerns for employers, such as creating and implementing the proper training, record-keeping and medical surveillance programs, say Matt Deffebach and Punam Kaji of Haynes and Boone LLP.
