More on Taxes/Estate PlanningDouglas Mancino, a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, has more than 30 years of experience representing nonprofit organizations on tax, business, and financial matters. Mancino's primary focus is representing organizations and individuals connected with the formation of nonprofit organizations in corporate transactions, joint ventures, shared services, conversions from non-profit to for-profit status, and corporate restructuring. He has extensive experience in audits, appeals, and tax controversy matters. He has served as the lead counsel in twelve audits conducted by the IRS as part of its Coordinated and Team Examination Program for tax-exempt organizations, and litigated tax cases in the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Court of Appeals.
Mancino is the author of the Matthew Bender publication, Taxation of Hospitals and Health Care Organizations (2000), and the co-author of Taxation of Exempt Organizations (2002); "Navigating Your way Through the Federal Self-Referral Law: A Guidebook to Stark II" (1998); and "Joint Ventures Between Hospitals and Physicians" (1987), Aspen Systems). He has also authored more than 60 articles on a variety of subjects concerning tax-exempt organizations.
Mancino has been recognized by California Law Business as one of the lawyers most frequently cited by their peers in the tax exempt organizations and health care fields. The National Law Journal has listed him as of the nation's leading managed care lawyers and Los Angeles Business Journal has named him one of Southern California's top 100 health care executives. Los Angeles Magazine listed Mancino as one of L.A.'s "Super Lawyers." He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America (1999-2004), Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Law.
