Frequently
Asked Questions
How do
I launch the Research Task Pane (RTP)?
You can launch
the RTP either by selecting the "Search Button" from the tool
bar within any of the Office programs, or by highlighting content within
an Office document then right-clicking and selecting "Lookup."
Alternatively, you may select Tools > Research from the top menu, or
simply highlight a phrase to search, and then press Alt and left-mouse
click.
How do
I begin my search for free case law within my Office program?
First, highlight
a keyword or phrase within your MS document. Click on the "Research"
button in the toolbar, then right-click on the highlighted content and
select "Look Up." The RTP will open. Then, using the drop-down
menu of services, select "lexisONE® FCL."
How do
I search the LexisNexis Bookstore from my Office program?
First, highlight a
keyword or phrase within your MS document. Click on the "Research"
button in the toolbar, then right-click on the highlighted content and

menu of services, select "LexisNexis Bookstore."
How do
I Shepardize® a case from my Office program?
Click on
"Shepardize". A browser window will open. The RTP will
be carried over to the browser and displayed in the left side of the browser
window.
Does the
RTP work with different browsers?
Full RTP functionality
and features are available with Microsoft® Internet Explorer. You may
use the RTP in the MS Office products with other browsers, including Netscape,
but there are limitations. When you select any of the results in the RTP,
Netscape will launch but the RTP will not open in the browser window.
Only the content of the link selected in the RTP will display.
Do I need
to reenter my user ID and Password each time I login to do a search?
No. The RTP includes
a "Remember Me" feature, which allows you to indicate whether
you would like your user ID and password information to be saved. Making
this selection enables you to avoid reentering your login information
every time you conduct a search.
