LexisNexis Earns Spot on 2012 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology
Innovators Across America
Company lauded for providing essential information that helps customers across all industries and government predict, assess and manage risk
LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced that it has been ranked 106 on the InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments, and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The annual list was revealed last night at a gala awards ceremony at the exclusive InformationWeek 500 Conference which took place at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort, Dana Point, CA.
“Over the last decade we have focused on building big data technology that we apply to our vast sources of information to generate unique insights that our customers need to grow their businesses," said James Peck, chief executive officer, LexisNexis Risk Solutions.
To manage, sort, link, and analyze billions of records within in hours rather than months, LexisNexis developed a data intensive supercomputer that has been proven with enterprise customers who need to process large volumes of data. Customers such as leading banks, insurance companies, utilities, law enforcement and federal government leverage this platform technology through LexisNexis. In 2011, LexisNexis decided to open source the proprietary data intensive supercomputer and launch it into the marketplace as HPCC Systems for Big Data analytics processing.
“We are proud of the high performance computing clusters we have pioneered that power the advanced predictive analytics so vital to our customers,” said Vijay Raghavan, chief technology officer, LexisNexis Risk Solutions.
The launch of HPCC Systems represents a paradigm shift of enterprise companies open-sourcing their proprietary and proven technology assets. In most cases, a start-up will form to create an open-source solution and then after a community coalescences around it, the start-up will try to monetize training, services and other products around the open-source offering to create a sustainable source of revenue. LexisNexis breaks that mold by offering a proven asset to the open source community, while continuing to remain committed to developing the most innovative products and services for our existing customers.
“The InformationWeek 500 has recognized the most innovative users of business technology for 24 years, and this year’s innovations were particularly impressive,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “What the editors looked for are unconventional approaches—new technologies, new models, new ways of grabbing business opportunities and solving complex business problems with IT.” The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
