LexisNexis® Honors U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force at IACP 10/29/2012

2012 “One Step Closer” Award Winners Recognized for Fugitive Apprehension Operations, Violent Sex Offender Investigations

LexisNexis® Risk Solutions today announced that the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force for the Eastern District of Louisiana has been selected as the recipient of the 3rd Annual LexisNexis “One Step Closer” award. The Awards Program honors leaders in federal, state and local government for excellence in the use of open or third-party information sources to bring government cases, problems or investigations “one step closer” to resolution.

Honored for its continuous excellence in both fugitive apprehension operations and violent sex offender investigations in Metropolitan New Orleans, the Task Force has been involved in nearly every significant fugitive manhunt within its geographical area of operations. In 2011 alone, the Task Force was responsible for clearing 1,408 arrest warrants and apprehending a total of 827 fugitives. This resulted in warrants being closed on 77 homicides, 109 sex offenders, 85 sexual assaults, 138 weapons violations and 195 assault investigations.

“Formed in 1999, this Task Force assists local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in apprehending violent fugitives from our community,” said Genny May, U.S. Marshal, Eastern District of Louisiana. “We appreciate LexisNexis recognizing our work with its ‘One Step Closer’ award and look forward to our continued success in enhancing public safety.”

LexisNexis partners with leading industry associations to recognize officers during major law enforcement events throughout the year, and presented the overall winner of their “One Step Closer” award during the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference.

“The members of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force include some of the most highly respected death and homicide investigators and analysts, medical examiners and victim advocates in the world,” said Haywood J. Talcove, chief executive officer, Government, LexisNexis Risk Solutions. “LexisNexis recognizes the Task Force for the quality investigative work it conducts and its exceptional service to the community.”

Initially comprised of officers from six law enforcement agencies in the New Orleans Metropolitan Area, the U.S. Marshals Task Force now includes 12 partner agencies, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kenner Police Department, Louisiana National Guard, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Probation and Parole, New Orleans Police Department, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, Slidell Police Department, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
