Semantic search—a new option to help make sure you don’t miss critical patent information.
LexisNexis® Semantic Search powered by PureDiscovery can help improve
your search results by adding concepts that relate to your search query.
You can then review the concepts suggested, assign
relative importance (weighting), eliminate concepts you
don’t wish to use, and even add more concepts of your own.
Once you run the semantic search and review the results, you can narrow your
search using either semantic or Boolean searching.
Benefits
- Save time—enter what you do know about the technology
or topic you’re researching. Then let the semantic technology uncover related
concepts and terms.
- Greater recall—utilize the semantic search option to
bring more results to you that are related to your search query, whether
or not you used the specific terms in your initial search.
- Greater precision—by combining Boolean and semantic
search technology, your results will be highly relevant to the technology
or topic you are researching, even when terms used in the patent or non-patent
prior art is vague or obscure.
- Full transparency—you do not have to guess what’s
being done away from your view and control. The terms and concepts suggested
by the semantic technology are returned to you for your review before
the actual search is run.
- Greater control—you are in complete control of editing
and prioritizing the terms and concepts you choose to include in your
research.
Features
We use Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA), a type of machine
learning that ensures that the semantic search returns more relevant documents
that are deemed on-point based on concepts, not just key words.
Our semantic intelligence began learning with the USPTO patent index and
over 2.5 million Elsevier journal articles. And we continue to provide more
patent-related documents for learning so that it is growing every day.
Fully federated so that you can apply the semantic search
to not only the LexisNexis® sources on which it is available, but also to Web
sources you may include in your search.
The semantic search option is available to you when using these solutions
and sources:
- TotalPatent™
- PatentOptimizer™
- Elsevier Journals
- IP.com and Research Disclosure
- Selected news and business sources
- LexisNexis® Toolbar, when you select sources on the toolbar that have
semantic search as an option.
