    Ramirez Jr., Hon. Juan


    Juan Ramirez, Jr. was appointed to the Third District Court of Appeal by Governor Jeb Bush in December, 1999, after having served for almost ten years as a Circuit Court Judge and two years as a County Court Judge. He earned a B.A and an M.A. degree from Vanderbilt University, followed by two years at the University of Florida, where he worked on a Ph.D. in Latin American History. He graduated with honors in 1975 from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He began his practice as an Associate with Tobin & Fisch, P.A., then became a solo practitioner for twelve years, specializing primarily in criminal defense.

    As a district judge, he is currently serving in the education committee of the Conference of District Court Judges.

    As a trial judge, he served in the Criminal, Family and General Jurisdiction Divisions and, during his last year, was the Administrative Judge of the Appellate Division of the Circuit Court. He was elected as the Third District Court representative to the Conference of Circuit Court Judges, where he was very active, serving also as Civil Section Chair and Education Program Chair. He lectured to his fellow judges on various civil topics.

    Judge Ramirez has taught numerous law school courses as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University School of Law and Nova Southeastern University School of Law, including medical malpractice, criminal procedure, evidence and family law.

    In the Florida Bar, he has been a member of the Criminal, Family Law and Civil Rules Committees. He served as an officer and director of the Cuban American Bar Association and the Coral Gables Bar Association.
