    Formerly entitled Legal Ethics: The Law of Professional Responsibility, the fourth edition presents a fresh approach to the study of professional responsibility, or "lawyer's law," whereby analysis is the key to understanding and preventing professional responsibility problems. Departing from the traditional, rule-bound legal ethics approach, these materials embrace the perspective that the primary emphasis in the study of professional responsibility resides in analysis and case law study, rather than rules.

    Lawyer's Law balances its practical methodology by providing references to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as the Restatement (Third) of the Law Governing Lawyers. Professional responsibility analysis extends beyond the rules of ethics to encompass general law (such as agency principles), rules governing procedure (Rule 11), and legal malpractice. To that end, it provides an analytical structure with goals, principles, and rules to consider for the efficient resolution of any professional responsibility problem.
