    Peter Schuck is Simeon E. Baldwin Professor Emeritus of Law, Yale University. Prior to joining the Yale faculty, he served as a top policy planner in the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, where he worked on a broad range of legal and policy issues. A graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School with an advanced degree in political science from Harvard, he practiced public interest law as director of Consumers Union?s Washington, D.C. office and private law in New York City. He is the author of many articles and books. The latter include Understanding America: The Anatomy of an Exceptional Nation (Public Affairs, 2008) (co-edited with James Q. Wilson); Meditations of a Militant Moderate: Cool Views on Hot Topics (Rowman & Littlefield, 2006); Targeting in Social Programs: Avoiding Bad Bets, Removing Bad Apples (Brookings, 2006) (with Richard J. Zeckhauser); Immigration Stories (Foundation, 2005) (co-edited with David A. Martin); Diversity in America: Keeping Government at a Safe Distance (Harvard, 2003); The Limits of Law: Essays on Democratic Governance (Westview, 2000). He has served as chair of the Administrative Law section of the American Association of Law Schools, as well as chair of the Immigration Law section.
