    A "FasTrain" is a Florida Bar Manual that provides step-by-step "how to" information on practicing in a particular area of Florida law. It is an invaluable guide for new attorneys, an excellent refresher for more seasoned attorneys, and a valuable tool for attorneys branching into new areas of law.

    The Florida Adoption statute, F.S. Chapter 63, was extensively revised in both 2001 and 2003. Even practitioners who handle adoptions on a regular basis may be unsure of the statute=s current requirements for notice to putative birth fathers or all steps necessary to terminate parental rights and then conduct an adoption proceeding. This FASTRAIN begins with initial interviews with birth and prospective adoptive parents and guides the experienced or novice attorney through adoption agreements, declaratory statements, identifying and locating birth fathers, providing required notice, terminating the parental rights of the birth parents, and finalizing the adoption. Practice pointers alert the attorney to procedural pitfalls and ethical issues. The manual includes forms for most of the steps discussed.
