David W. Gruning
Professor Gruning graduated Order of the Coif and magna cum laude from Tulane Law School, where he was articles editor of the law review. He practiced law with Stone, Pigman, Walther, Wittmann & Hutchinson in New Orleans, before joining the Loyola faculty in 1986. An ability to work in French has led to lectures in several countries, including Morocco and Madagascar, and he taught at the University of Montreal from 2001-2003, where he helped launch the graduate program in common law. At Loyola, his courses include private and commercial law, in both the civil and in the common-law curriculum, as well as constitutional law. Current research interests include the problems that arise during recodification of law, particular the law of sale, as well as the comparison of legal institutions in legal systems based on both the civil and the common law. He is a member of the American Law Institute and serves on several committees of the Louisiana State Law Institute.
Alain A. Levasseur
Professor Alain Levasseur is the Hermann Moyse, Sr. Professor of Law and Director of European Studies at Louisiana State University. A graduate of the Universities of Paris (France) and Tulane, Professor Levasseur practiced with the Paris firm of Mudge, Rose, Guthrie & Alexander before joining the World Bank as a technical assistant. Prior to joining the Law Faculty at LSU, Professor Levasseur taught at Tulane Law School from 1970-1977. He is a member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, the Societe de Legislation Comparee, and the Louisiana State Law Institute. He serves on the editorial or advisory boards of the American Journal of Comparative Law, the Revue Trimestrielle de Droit Civil, the Revue Generale de Droit, the Foro de Derecho Mercantil, and e-Competitions. He is president of the Louisiana Chapter of the Association Henri Capitant and of the International Association of Legal Methodology. He has published extensively in the fields of Comparative Law, Civil Law, and EU/EC Law. Professor Levasseur has been a regular visiting Professor at the Universities of Aix-Paul Cezanne and Lyon III.
