    Bjorklund, Victoria B.


    Victoria B. Bjorklund is a Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP where she heads the Firm's Exempt Organizations Group. She specializes in forming, qualifying, reorganizing and advising public charities and private foundations. In 2001, she was appointed to serve on the IRS's Tax Exempt/Government Entities Advisory Committee and was elected Chair effective June 2004. She was named a David Rockefeller Fellow for 1997-1998 as a rising civic leader in New York City. From 1989 through 2001, she served as a director, secretary and pro bono legal counsel for Doctors Without Borders. She is also a director of and pro bono counsel for the Robin Hood Foundation. She chaired the ABA Tax Section Committee on Exempt Organizations 2001-2003 and serves as Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on International Philanthropy. Ms. Bjorklund was honored in May 2002 as ABA Tax Section "Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year" in recognition of her 9/11 work. The Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York City and Lawyers Alliance of New York, Inc. recently honored Ms. Bjorklund for her outstanding volunteer service in responding to the legal needs arising from September 11. In 2003, she received the Commissioner's Award for her response to 9/11's legal challenges. Ms. Bjorklund speaks and writes frequently on exempt-organization subjects. She earned her J.D. at Columbia University School of Law, a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Yale University, and a B.A. magna cum laude from Princeton University, where she graduated in three years and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

    Kurtz, Daniel L.


    Daniel L. Kurtz is a partner in the New York office of Holland & Knight, LLP, where he specializes in the representation of nonprofit organizations generally. Significant aspects of his practice involve corporate governance issues. Mr. Kurtz frequently lectures and writes about corporate governance and nonprofit issues and has held leadership positions in national, state, and local bar association committees active in nonprofit matters. He also serves as a board member of several charities and is the president of a private foundation. A graduate of Brown University and the University of Chicago Law School, Mr. Kurtz is a former assistant attorney general in charge of the Charities Bureau in the New York State Attorney General¿s office.

    Fishman, James J.


    James J. Fishman, a Professor of Law at the Pace University School of Law since 1978, has also served as Executive Director of the Council of New York Law Associates (since renamed The Lawyers Alliance for New York) and of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Professor Fishman serves on the Corporation Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. In addition, Professor Fishman is a member of the Fulbright Senior Specialist Panel. He has authored numerous books and articles concerning nonprofit law, including a casebook on nonprofit organizations and law review articles on nonprofit law, education, and international securities regulation. Professor Fishman teaches contracts, corporations, and nonprofit organizations. He received his J.D. and his Ph.D. from New York University.
