    Editor-in-Chief:

    Jeffrey E. Thomas is Associate Dean for International Programs and Professor of Law at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. He is a past President of the Asia Pacific Risk and Insurance Association and past Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools. He is Editor-in-Chief for the New Appleman Insurance Law Practice Guide and co-author of Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Insurance. Dean Thomas served on the Editorial Board of the CGL Reporter, is a reviewer and an advisor to the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal.


    Editor of Volumes 1 and 3:

    Francis J. Mootz, III has practiced law with a firm that specialized in insurance defense and coverage litigation. He is a Professor of Law at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV, where he regularly teaches Insurance Law. He has devoted his scholarship related to insurance law to areas that bring to light the fundamental dimensions of the business of insurance. He has been a frequent speaker on Employment Practices Liability Insurance and writer on insurance settlements and bad faith. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Insurance Law section of the Association of American Law Schools, and he has been a Commissioner to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Law since 2006.


    Editor of Volume 2:

    Martin F. Grace is the James S. Kemper Professor of Risk Management, Professor of Legal Studies & Risk Management and Insurance of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance as well as the Associate Director and Research Associate at the Center for Risk Management and Insurance Research of the Georgia State University. His research has been published in journals in economics and insurance concerning the economics and public policy aspects of regulation and taxation of the insurance industry. He was President of The Risk Theory Society and is a current associate editor of the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He has consulted with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), state regulators and industry associations and has testified before Congress on the future of insurance regulation and before state legislatures on insurance regulation and taxation.

    Jim Poolman has been North Dakota's Insurance Commissioner and an outspoken leader at the NAIC, serving in numerous leadership posts including Vice President. In North Dakota he was instrumental in preserving a competitive marketplace while implementing important consumer protections.


    Aviva Abramovsky is Associate Dean for Special Projects and Associate Professor of Law at the Syracuse University College of law. Dean Abramovsky received her B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1997 and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2000. Prior to joining the faculty at Syracuse University she served as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Florida State University School of Law. Dean Abramovsky has twice served as an Academic Reading Group Member for the ABA's Standing Committee on the Judiciary as evaluator of Sonya Sotomayor and Samuel A. Alito's nominations as Associate Justices to the Supreme Court of the United States. Her scholarship focuses on both substantive insurance law, professional responsibility and their intersection in both theory and practice. Dean Abramovsky is a frequent speaker both internationally and nationally on insurance law related topics including reinsurance. She is the Contributing Editor of the treatise New Appleman New York Insurance Law, Second Edition, and past Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools.


    Authors of the First and Second Editions of Appleman:

    The late John Alan Appleman, long regarded as the leading authority on insurance law, wrote the original 25-volume treatise and later produced a series of monumental revisions to the set. The 2d edition has 21 volumes authored by insurance scholar Eric Mills Holmes.
