Selecting Sources

This tutorial module explains how to select a source for your search with the LexisNexis® research services.

LexisNexis research services offer several ways for you to select a source for your search. All are easy to use, but you may find that one particular method suits you best.

Selecting a Specific Source.

On many Search forms, you can use the Select Sources drop-down list to select a specific source. To learn more about a source, select it and then select the information icon next to the drop-down list.

Using the Source Directory.

If you do not find the source you need in the Source drop-down list, use the Source Directory tab. On the Power Search form, you can also display the Source Directory by selecting the More Sources link.

There are two ways to use the Source Directory. Use the Find Sources tab to search for a specific source or use the Browse Sources tab to explore sources by category when you aren’t sure which source you need.

Using the Find Sources Tab.

Use the Find Sources tab when you know part of a source name, or want to check if a specific source is available. In the Keyword field, enter the name of the source you want to find, or one or more words in the source name. You can also restrict the search to one or more publication types and topics. To run the search, select the Find Sources button. The Find Sources feature displays a list of sources matching your search terms. To choose a source for your search, select the source name. The number of sources you select appears at the top of the page. As you choose sources, they appear in the Selected Sources list. You can use the list to easily remove one or more sources from your search, if necessary. When you have chosen all your sources, select the OK-Continue button to return to the Power Search form and complete your search. The sources will appear on the form.

Using the Browse Sources Tab.

Use the Browse Sources tab when you are not sure what source you need. It lists broad categories of sources that you "click through" to find the appropriate source. The source categories include all your subscribed sources, but you can restrict them by publication or content type. You can also list just those sources related to a particular country or topic. Selecting a category name lists additional related categories and individual sources. To choose a source for your search, select the source name. When you have chosen all your sources, select the OK-Continue button to return to the Power Search form and complete your search. The sources will appear on the form.
