"Several Elon University School of Law students are traveling to the San Antonio area to Karnes Detention Center, which houses women and children fleeing violence in their home countries. They have come seeking asylum in the United States, and have limited access to legal representation, which mostly comes from a visiting teams of pro bono attorneys. We are passionate about their cause and are using our spring break to assist these attorneys with administrative tasks and Spanish language interpretation. Funds will be used for travel and lodging expenses. For more information, please read this article about a past trip taken by Elon Law alumnae to a similar immigration detention center [i.e., Artesia]: http://www.elon.edu/e-net/Article/103667?s=/law/news/enet_navigation" - Women & Children Fleeing Violence, Jan. 30, 2015.
