2 Associates Join Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel, a leading Northern California law firm, has announced that Michael T. Bonetto and Derek Y. Chien have joined the firm.

Bonetto is an experienced family law practitioner who focuses on all facets of family law, from intake through settlement and/or trial, including those matters involving spousal and child support issues, complex property division, family-owned businesses, child custody and visitation and restraining orders. With his hire, six lawyers and three paralegals comprise the team at Hoge Fenton that is completely dedicated to the practice of family law.

Before joining Hoge Fenton, Bonetto was an associate at Whiting, Fallon, Ross and Abel, a family law boutique in Walnut Creek, Calif. He earned his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley.

Chien is a new admittee to the California bar and is assigned to the firm's Intellectual Property and Corporate practice teams. His primary areas of focus are trademark and copyright prosecution and USPTO litigation, helping to manage significant IP portfolios for several of the firm's well known global clients. He also is involved in general corporate work, including mergers & acquisitions and the formation and dissolution of nonprofit organizations. Derek is fluent in Cantonese and speaks basic Mandarin and Spanish.

Chien earned his dual J.D./MBA at Santa Clara University School of Law and did his undergraduate work at the University of Texas. While at Santa Clara, he served as editor of the highly regarded Santa Clara University Computer and High Tech Law Journal, earning the honor of Best Articles Editor. Before joining Hoge Fenton, he clerked in the Corporate & Securities Department at Oracle Corporation.
