BOSTON - Goodwin Procter, a national Am Law 50 firm, has announced that Steven A. Ellis has joined the firm as a partner in its Consumer Financial Services Litigation practice, in its Los Angeles office. Ellis' practice will focus on complex commercial litigation, defense of class action lawsuits in federal and state courts and representation of financial institutions, insurance companies and large corporations in consumer fraud, credit card processing and other financial services matters. He joins the firm from Sidley Austin.
Goodwin Procter has grown significantly in California, adding partners in its intellectual property, technology and venture capital practices. The firm now has more than 100 attorneys in California.
Before joining Goodwin Procter, Ellis was a member of the financial services/consumer class actions group at Sidley Austin in Los Angeles. Previously, he served as associate counsel for the Office of Iran-Contra Independent Counsel. Before that, Ellis served as a law clerk to Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Ellis is the recipient of the ACLU Foundation of Southern California's Criminal Justice Award and the Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services awarded by the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1991 and his A.B. from Harvard University in 1986.
