Goodwin Procter Names David E. Kleinfeld To Head San Diego Office

SAN DIEGO - Goodwin Procter LLP, a national Am Law 50 firm, has announced the appointment of partner David E. Kleinfeld as chair of the firm's San Diego office.

Kleinfeld, who joined Goodwin in 2010, is a partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the Intellectual Property Group. He will replace Stephen C. Ferruolo, who is retiring from private practice to become Dean of the University of San Diego School of Law on Aug. 1. Ferruolo will remain of counsel to Goodwin Procter.

Kleinfeld has significant trial experience, winning major victories for major technology and Fortune 500 corporations. He has represented Ernst & Young, Hewlett-Packard, HTC, Kyocera, Nokia and QUALCOMM, among others, in litigation involving intellectual property, unfair competition, and various business and commercial disputes. He also represented the City of San Diego in litigation relating to the multibillion-dollar underfunding of the San Diego City Employee Retirement System.

Kleinfeld is listed by San Diego Magazine as one of San Diego's top commercial and intellectual property litigators, and by California Law Business as one of California's top rainmakers. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of commercial and intellectual property litigation, and was selected for inclusion in the San Diego "Super Lawyers" lists for his intellectual property litigation practice.

Kleinfeld is a member of the State Bar of California, State Bar of New York State and San Diego County Bar Association. He is also a Founding Master of the J. Clifford Wallace American Inn of Court and president of the board of directors of San Diego Opera. Kleinfeld is a former member of the Board of Governors of the San Diego Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Committee of Adoption for Local Patent Rules of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and American Arbitration Association.
